| What is swing dancing? Is it like Carolina Shag? |
|
Swing dancing originated in Harlem in the 1920’s and spread across the country. Carolina Shag evolved out of the swing dance movement of that era. The swing dancing that you will see at the PSDS dances will mostly consist of a 6-count movement referred to as Jitterbug or East Coast Swing, and 8-count dances called Lindy Hop and Balboa. You may also see a wide variety of styles and interpretations on the dance floor. Mostly, everyone just has fun!
|
| What if I don't know how to dance?
|
| No problem! Please join us for our introductory Jitterbug lesson at
7:30 pm prior to every dance. We'll start from the very beginning,
so even if you've never danced before, you can get out and enjoy dancing
right away. |
| What should I wear? |
| Comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes are best. Simply wear something nice at our dances or you can get into the spirit and don your vintage duds! Avoid high heeled shoes, sandals, socks, and bare feet. |
| Do I have to have a partner? |
| No partner is necessary for the lesson or the dance. Everyone interacts with each other! It’s a wonderful way to meet great new people and learn something new! |
| What are the ages of people who go to the dances?
|
| All ages are encouraged to attend. Our events are non-alcoholic and appropriate for all ages from 0-100. |
| Can children come?
|
Children are welcome and those under 12 are admitted free. Please supervise your child at our dances. |
| I need directions.
|
| Please see our directions page. |
